WESTY VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS- REGIONALS BOUND
In the largest attendance at a volleyball game yet, the Lady Wolves dominated Riverdale Ridge Ravens in a 3-1 win which locked down the league championship for Westminster last Thursday, October 24th. This is the first league championship for team sports at Westminster High School since the undefeated football season back in 2015. The Wolves are headed to regional playoffs next week.

The team has gone undefeated in league play and boasts an impressive 20-2 record overall making this the most successful volleyball season for the school since it moved to the new Westy facility which opened in 2010.

Standout freshman and power hitter Kiara Deleon proclaims, “I just love volleyball.” She averages 3.3 kills per set and factors heavily in the Wolves wins. Kiara has stunned the league with 229 kills.

Kiara’s sister, sophomore and captain Eileen Deleon, also an outside hitter, averages 2 kills per set and leads with 46 serving aces so far this season. Setter, junior, and team captain Jarely Sanchez crushes aces with 44 for the season and offers up a stunning 436 assists. Junior libero Aliyah Gonzalez has 118 digs. Middles Rose Ruiz (Junior) and Denisse Estrada (Senior) have put up 94 blocks (51 and 43 respectively).

Last season, Westy Girls’ Volleyball had a record of 8-15. This much-improved record can be attributed to tremendous varsity talent and a team that gets along both on and off the court. Many on the team have played together in Lobos Volleyball Club. Co-captain and Senior Heidi Kesomboon states, “Our team is close, and we are working together every minute to make it all the way to state!”

Head Coach Justin Adcock reveals the secret to the team’s success, “They are incredible players with years of experience playing together. This season they are learning how to take their teamwork to the next level through trust and supporting each other.”

The team also includes Seniors Arianna Mendoza-Villa, Laila Olivas, and Rylan Righetti as well as Juniors Yaslynn Arellano, Camila Cordova, and Malia Wagner Lopez.

The final season home game against Prairie View High School is Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30 PM at the Westy Gym. Come cheer on your Westy Wolves in their incredible season!
