Hockey 101 Comes to Sherrelwood

Question: What is hockey without ice and skates?

Answer: A lot of Fun.

It’s called ball hockey and Sherrelwood students learned all about the game last week. The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Development Team spent the day at the school as part of their Hockey 101 program.

It’s a way to introduce students to hockey by having students participate in skills, drills and friendly competition.

Ball hockey is closely related to traditional hockey except the game is played on foot on a non-ice surface and a plastic ball is used instead of a puck. Hand-eye coordination is a must, along with team work and concentration.

Sherrelwood Elementary is one of about 50 schools in the metro area that the Avalanche plan to visit in 2025.

Special Education Interventionist Ryan Hartgerink shared these pictures with What’s up WPS. Enjoy!
