At Back-to-School Night, Westminster High School Principal, Maureen Bangsund, shared a TEDx Talk with families that is especially timely as WPS works to create phone-free learning environments.

In The Battle for Your Time: Exposing the Hidden Costs of Social Media, speaker Dino Ambrosi explores how much time young people spend on social media, how platforms are intentionally designed to compete for their attention, and what that can mean for their relationships, goals, and well-being.

The talk does not suggest that technology has no value. Instead, it encourages young people and adults to think more intentionally about how they use it—and how much of their limited time they are willing to give it.

We encourage families to watch the talk together and use it to begin a conversation about screen time, social media, and being more present at school and at home.
