Attendance

Reporting Absences? Please call your student's school to report a tardy or absence.

One criterion of a student’s success in school is regular and on-time attendance. Frequent absences or tardiness may lead to poor academic work, lack of social development and possible academic failure. Attendance is of utmost importance for school interest, social adjustment and scholastic achievement.

No single factor may interfere with a student's progress more quickly than frequent tardiness or absences. Students are expected to be in attendance every day school is in session. Furthermore, the Board recognizes the legal obligation families have to ensure that their students attend a school in which that child is enrolled, and will support every effort to ensure that students are in attendance every day school is in session.

Students must satisfy two basic requirements in order to earn full class credit: (1) satisfy all academic requirements and (2) exhibit good attendance habits as stated in the Board policy C.R.S. § 22-33-107(3) defines “habitually truant“ as a child age 6-17 who has four unexcused absences from school in a month or 10 during the school year.

For more information about the school attendance and WPS truancy policies, please refer to the Student and Family Rights and Responsibilities Handbook: English | En Español.
