Flynn Families
A Message from Principal Chism
Building for the future
Maximizing Resources
Extensive planning and preparations are underway to ensure a smooth transition for everyone involved in the process. The blending of the two schools will maximize resources for all students and our Operations team has designed plans and renovations to make sure there will be plenty of space at Shaw Heights to accommodate the arrival of Flynn students.
Safety and Security
To ensure the safety of everyone during the construction project, all students and staff from John E. Flynn A Marzano Academy will relocate to the nearby Shaw Heights Middle School building for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.
Using a similar approach to what is now utilized at Flynn, there will be a separation of younger students from the older students when appropriate. Schools across the district have had great success in combining students from pre-school to 8th grade and research has shown that this is the preferred model for most parents.
New Identity
On December 10, 2025, the Westminster Public Schools Board of Education approved the name Uplands Discovery Campus.
The new name and logo honor the past with a proud Falcon, while paving the way for a bright future as we expand our partnership with the Uplands residential development on the east side of Lowell Boulevard between 84th and 88th Avenue.
More Information
Principal Jimmy Chism hosted a Family Feedback night at Flynn on Wednesday November, 12. There will also be an open house at Shaw Heights Middle School on Thursday, January 15.

John E. Flynn A Marzano Academy has a proud history and we want to honor that and share your stories with the WPS community.

Talking about change with your child
All students react differently to a change in their routine and what they know.
For many children this will be an exciting transition and a part of growing up. Still, for others, especially younger children, it may produce some questions and anxiety. Our counselors and staff have put together some simple talking points to keep in mind when talking to your children.
