Special Needs Students
Students with Special Needs
Transportation may be included as a related service on a student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). A related service is provided only when a student’s disability requires it for the student to benefit from special education and access a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Not all students with IEPs qualify for transportation—only those whose disability creates a specific need for specialized transportation.
Morning Pick Up
To help our routes run smoothly and on time, please have your student at the bus stop and visible about five minutes before the scheduled pickup time. Drivers will wait up to two minutes past the scheduled time before continuing their route. If your student will not be riding the bus on a given day, we kindly ask that families call the Transportation Department at least one hour before pickup to let us know.
If a student misses the bus for two consecutive days without parent or guardian notification, transportation service will be temporarily paused. Restarting service is easy—just contact the Transportation Department, and bus service will resume the next school day. We appreciate your partnership in helping us provide safe, reliable transportation for all students.
Afternoon Drop Off
To help ensure a safe and smooth drop-off, please make sure an adult is present at your student’s drop-off location at the scheduled time. If your student is permitted to be left home alone, this must be documented in Infinite Campus or included in your parent packet so our team can follow your family’s preferences.
If a student is not approved to be left alone and no adult is present at drop-off, transportation staff will return the student to their school and notify school staff to ensure the student’s safety. If we are unable to reach a parent or guardian, we will follow required safety procedures and partner with appropriate community support agencies as needed. Thank you for working with us to keep all students safe and supported.
Special Equipment
To help keep all students safe and comfortable on the bus, wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility or seating devices should be well maintained and in good working order. Brakes must work properly and be locked while on the bus, and safety belts should fit securely and be fastened during the ride. Equipment may be checked to be sure it meets basic safety guidelines, and devices should be cleaned regularly to support a healthy environment for everyone. Thank you for helping us provide safe and welcoming transportation for all students.
