  • Are economically disadvantaged
  • Have disabilities
  • Have limited English proficiency
  • Have limited literacy
  • Are of any racial or ethnic minority background

Support is given to parents who have barriers to understanding their students’ learning needs. The support will be given by classroom teachers, Title I teachers, special educators, homeless coordinator, migrant coordinator and English Language Acquisition (ELA) teachers. The process is ongoing throughout the school year.

WPS provides families with information to help them understand the state’s academic content and achievement standards, state and local academic assessments, the requirements of Title I, how to monitor students’ academic progress and how to work with school staff to improve the achievement of students. WPS and schools have developed written materials and training for staff to help parents work with students to improve student achievement.

WPS encourages parents to collaborate with us and the school by:

  • Reading information about measurement topics and state standards
  • Be present at semi-annual parent-teacher conferences with the classroom teacher and support staff
    • If you are unable to attend, the school will offer additional parent-teacher conferences when requested.
  • Attending parent involvement meetings, programs, trainings and workshops
  • Review your school's and students' state assessments results
