SNAP During the Government Shutdown
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides critical food support for those who cannot afford it, and its funding has been directly impacted by the current federal government shutdown. We want to assure you that Westminster Public Schools is committed to ensuring every child has access to nutritious food.
Universal School Meals Will Continue
Regardless of the situation with SNAP, all students in Westminster Public Schools continue to receive free breakfast and lunch at school. The state's Healthy School Meals for All program is currently in place, and this vital service is not affected by the federal shutdown. We strongly encourage all students to take advantage of these free, nutritious meals every day.
Access to Other Food Resources
We understand that school meals alone may not be enough to bridge the gap left by the temporary end of SNAP benefits. We urge all families in need to utilize the following community resources:

How You Can Help
Local food banks can purchase food at a significantly lower cost than retail, often stretching every dollar to provide multiple meals. Consider making a monetary donation to organizations that directly support our community:
The Westminster Public Schools Foundation is partnering with Community Table to directly support WPS families.
Donations to the Foundation marked as “Food Assistance” will be provided directly to Community Table to support WPS families. Please mark your donation as “Food Assistance” to specifically direct your contribution to this important effort.
If you can’t afford to make a donation, but would still like to support others in need, you can volunteer your time. Community food banks and pantries rely heavily on volunteers to sort, pack, and distribute food. Check with local organizations like FISH of Westminster or Growing Home for urgent volunteer opportunities.
